| Show YOUNG FOLKS DAY I The Treat Arranged for the Little Folks Next Tuesday Salt Lake la probably not behind I any city in the world of its size in that kindly humanitarian spirit Which sueks to bestow ple3sures and benefits upon those whom fortune has not favored with leisure or means Fresh sir salt water bathing bath-ing recreation and change are as grateful aud beneficial to those who by their own efforts cannot obalu them as they are to those more favored by fortune and it augurs well for the heart of a community In which effort are made to bridge over at times the inequalities which will Inevitably exist and to bring a brighter ray of sunshine on the pathway of the young Notwithstanding all the crowded trains which run to the lake each weekandwbich are no doubt patronized patron-ized by hundreds who can scarcely afford the price of their tickets there are many hundreds of children in the city who have not been and cannot without assistance go on one of these dolghtful excursions Pi e butt dollars are very scarce whTo they reside and every cent must Le carefully handled to give them bread and keep a shelter above their beads Many necessities are denied them luxuries are not to be thought o A trip by rail a sea bath a steamboat excursion or any such pleasant experiences are never to be known by them unless they are provided by some outsde agency And this care for the neg lected ones which is evinced every part of the country and nowhere with mere wholehearted goodness than here in Salt Lake is one of the most gratifying symptoms of our civilization Tne present movement which is being conducted by the Old Folks Committee with the object of giving all the children of the city who could not otherwise obtain the privilege a days outing at Black Rock Is exactly in keeping with the old folks excursion which was such a complete success a few weeks There is no poor society or charity tone about it whatever what-ever but merely the extending of a privilege which all who desire it can tccept with perfect propriety and with certainty of n pleasant and agreeable time Citizens who are I acquainted with families who should have these advantages extended to them will confer a favor on the committee com-mittee by letting them know and tickets will be sent as requested on the representation of such citizens It is very desirable that ttie full number provided for 600 should join the party and that all contemplating con-templating the trip should real the following rules which will govern the excursion The train will leave Salt Lake City at 840 am and return to the city at about 4 pm Tickets will be given out on Monday August 18th at 9 am at Savages Art Bazar I and at Eddingtone Juvenile Bazar near THE HERALD office No mo e than the number named above will be issued I Children accepting tickets must comply with the following requires ments They must reseed the orders of the committee They must come with clean honda and face and well imbed bathing w II be announced an-nounced by the sound of the bugle and the time for leaving the lake by the same signal Prizes for foot racing and other competitive games will be distributed distribu-ted by the committee Lemonade will be if sued to all the bys and girls after their first bath In the morning The friends of the children whogo I will please see that they are provided pro-vided with picnc The long list of those entitled to the privileges offered by the committee com-mittee may be seen by the following fol-lowing general invitation To the poor orphans fatherless and motherless children of both sexes children of newly arrived emigrants and poor children of Salt Lake City generally to the number of 600 between the ages of 8 and 15 i Let no widowed mother who cannot i can-not affo d to free ate of his steam I boat the Whirlwind to treat the children to short trips en the Inky which will be a great novelty to i them all Superintendent Biter of the Utah Nevada Railway has proffered the I train to take the party out and back I I free of charge and Messrs Douris I and Anderson the courteous proprietors pro-prietors of Black Sock and Garfield I have tendered the free use of their t bath houses at Black Bock These I generous contributions enable the committee to carry out the project with very little money 1 i aid but they will be glad to receive gifts of cake candy nuts etc which can be distributed to the children I and especially to those who may come without being provided with picnic Let the entire success of this noble undertaking be assured |
