Show A Bill Previdiag ftr jjiipecteifs of Bees Etc The following is the text of the bee bill passed by the Council on Monday Section 1 Be it enacted by the Governor Gov-ernor and Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Utah That it shall be the duty of the county court of each county upon a petition from beekepers residing tnerein on the the first Monday in March of each alternate year or at the first regular sitting of said court thereafter to appoint from among such beekeepers beekeep-ers one or more inspectors of bees who shall periorm the duties of bee inspectors for two years and until their successors ar < s appointed and quailitied Said inspectors shall qualify by taking and subscribing an oath of office and giving bonds to such court conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of said office with sureties to be approved ap-proved by the probate judge said bonds to be filed with the clerk of ihe county court Sec 2 in determining the fitness of a person to Jill the position of in spectorthe courts shall be guided by the wishes of a majority or the beekeepers bee-keepers owning or keeping bees in their respective counties and it shall be deemed liwful fur any inspect in-spect if h so desires to invite one or more persons to assist him in prosecuting his inspection Provided Pro-vided That no extra charge be mad for such service Sec o On complaint of any person to the effect that in his or her opinion the disease known as QuI brood exist among the bees of any person or persons whether owners or custodians it shall be the duty of the inspector residing nearest near-est to where the foul brood is suspected sus-pected to exist to immediately inspect in-spect the bees believed thus to De infected and if said inspector finds that foul brood dues exist he shall instruct said beekeeper to wholly destroy said bees comb honey frames and hives by immediately burning them up after nightfall and that an assessment shall bema be-ma t and collected by said inspec tor uon the owner of each colony of Le s in the county wherin such destruction may be made to indemnify indem-nify the owner of the bees and hives so destroyed Sec 4 If the beekeeper in whose colony the foul brood is discovered either by himself or an inspector doe3 not immediately wholly destroy said diseased bees and hive with all its contens in the manner above provided uU the complaint of aa inspector in-spector or other competent person before the nearest justice of the peace of the precint in which said beekeeper keeps his bees and on sufficient and lawful proof he shall be held liable to a fine of not less than 5 nor to exceed 25 for the first offense and for each additional offense he shall be liable to a fine not to exceed 50 Sec 6 The compensation of bee inspectors as contemplated in this act shall be determined by the I county courts of their respective counties and be paid out of the country treasury Sec U An act entitled An act for the protection of bee culture approved February 10 1SSO is hereby repealed |
