Show I tl Theatre 1 Notwithstanding the exceedingly bid walking last night there was avery 1 l i i a-very large audienca at the Theatre H to witness the presentation of the i Streets of New York given asa tt r complimentary benefit to Mr Geo C Staley The piece is probably a difficult one to produce and while it was received with signs of marked approval and by applause by many his the performance was open to severe and just criticism As a rule the business of the piece was pretty 1 well prepared but in the dialogue nearly all the actors were deficient i tat t-at times so much so that speeches y were skipped and lines had to be repeated 1 t re-peated An inexcusable defect and ° one of frequent occurrence was that many of the scenes were entirely r spoiled because those on the stage Ll spoke so low as to be inaudible to the audience and the gist of the 4 matter was entirely lost i i Before the last act Mr Staley appeared I ap-peared before the curtain and returned re-turned thanks for the generous patronage 13 pat-ronage he had received s I The Sixth Infantry Band worked steadily but with all their numbers i they were utterly unable to render r music anything like as good as that t furnished by the regular theatre orchestra Some of their selections the last one especiallywere very pretty b j r |
