Show , '' , J; 7 t '" TR0PIIY WINNERS There were almost more awards than students at the final end-of-season Awards Night Program of the South Davis Swim School last weekend in West Bountiful reports Director Mary Lan-den. RED CROSS skill level certificates cer-tificates were given in profusion including 56 beginner, 38 advanced beginner, 18 intermediate and four swimmer certificates being earned during the summer. Eleven students swam the mile non-stop on an "outing" in the bubble pool for that purpose, of whom three are eligible and will receive their Boy Scout Mile Swim Award at their next respective Courts of Honor of their troops. There were also 28 students who "survived" the 15 minute drownproofing experience in the deep-end during the summer. THE FIRST student to swim the length of the pool underwater at Bountiful was Mike Anderson. Mike Birrell was first to make the distance at the West Bountiful location and Ryan Rathmann was first at the Val Verda location. CITED AS "Fastest Learner" was J. D. Kerr with Chad Greenhalgh receiving an honorable mention certificate. cer-tificate. Receiving "Tiny Tot" swimmer awards were Amy Richardson and Lisa Workman. Both are four year olds who succeeded in swimming swim-ming at least a length of the pool on the face. Chosen as "Personality Plus" were Natalie Hill, Daniel Ouzounian and Darrold Crossen. Shayla Cough and John Lindsey were picked as "Mr. and Miss. Photogenic." THE ANNUAL "Family of the Year" award was given to the Richardson family with four children registered in the program and three registrations. registra-tions. The Richardsons were also responsible for the enrollment of several neighbors neigh-bors and relations in the program. Daniel Ouzounian attended the most lessons (39), followed by Mitri Muna and Shayla Gough who tied for second place with 36 lessons each. Neil Dennis received a special certificate for his consistent effort. MARTHA THOMPSON and Brandon Stevens were specially recognized for their "overcoming fear" problems through their participation in the program. Appreciation for help, encouragement and support was expressed in the presentation of a certificate to Shirley Maxwell as a "Favorite Parent." The high point of the program was the announcing and presentation of the five trophies for outstanding achievement and progress for the year. Michelle Peterson took home the trophy for "Success Story of 1978" for her overcoming of hangups and character development through her participation in the lessons. NORMA RICHARDSON was chosen as "Parent of the Year" for her enthusiastic help as secretary, taking roll and marking skill sheets most of the summer, and for generally being a positive and cheerful influence at the lessons. les-sons. Winning the coveted "Best Swimmer" trophy was Gina Henderson who moves beautifully beau-tifully in the water. Heidi Maxwell was cited as the "Most Progress" trophy winner. She began the summer as a beginner, very afraid of the deep water. Within a few lessons she overcame that fear and proceeded to pass the highest skill level, earning the Red Cross Swimmer Certificate. TROY NELSON received the "1978 Fear Mastery" trophy. His greatest concern and first question on arriving at the pool was "Do I have to go off the diving board?" "How deep is it?" and "I don't want to put my face in or do anything." The climax of his experience in the . program was eagerly jumping jump-ing off the board on the last day of class and swimming the "Quiet Stroke" on his face for two lengths of the pool. South Davis Swim School will resume swimming lessons les-sons after school starts on September 11, according to Director Mary Landen. ml |
