Show HONOR OLD AGE A Fine Affair at Goalville COALVILLE NOV 27 82 Editors Herald A very enjoyable affair took place in this city on Friday evening November No-vember 24th in the shape of a surprise sur-prise supper for the old folks of the place without regard to sect or creed Early in the morning young men carried an invitation to all the old folks within a radius of 3M miles of Coalville inviting them to be sure to attend a meeting in the evening at tie school house between be-tween the hours of 4 and 6 Five or six carriages were engaged gathering gath-ering them to the schoolhouse A supper was there provided for them where everything in the shape of canned goods pies cakes etc were prepared Two taoles the length of the house were spread The house not being large enough to accommodate accommo-date all caused a second sitting at I the table After the meal the evening i eve-ning was passed as follows Music Song by Patriarch Thomas Ball aged 61 years short speech by Mr Preston aged 61 years recitation by Miss Nora Evans song and accompaniment ac-companiment by Misses Lizzie and Cora Fisher The oldest man present pre-sent was Roger Knightaged 90 years The oldest lady was Mrs Swain son aged 80 years Song by pioneer Thomas Bullock aged 67 years song in Danish by Mr Johanson aged 58 years recitation by V G Ehead Music by Messrs Hodson Wright brothers and Holland The oldest member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterdav Saints present was Mrs Rebecca Merrill baptised in 1834 Cotillion dance of persons over 65 years of age song by Thomas Beard aged 60 years clog dance by Father Fewkes re leived by brothers Nichols and Williams song by Sister Dexter The oldest couple preseDt who had lived together longest as husband and wife had been married fifty three years Speech on courtship by Father Christopher Allen addressed ad-dressed to one of the young ladies present concluding with a few dances for the young who had assisted in making preparations The above programme was the cause of much merriment especially the dance of the 65 years olds which convulsed the whole audience with laughter The oldest couple in matrimony received three rousiag cheers President Cluff acted as I prompter between ninety and 100 old persons were present The affair was instigated and carried out by the Y M Y L Associations Associa-tions A C SALMON Secy |
