Show The Prices I Chicago 29The Tribune says evi dence which it has gathered aa to the prices paid for tea by retailers and ooi 5 sumers shows the latter are victims of unwarrantable aDd flagrant extortions at a time when wholesale prices have bean I largely reduced The following statement state-ment of prices of various grades uay be relied upon as correct The importer i sells 17 cent tea to the jobber tar 22 erd I the jobber to the retailer for 30 cents and the retailer to the consumer for fifty cents 20 cent tea is sold to the jobber for 25 cents to the retailer for 35 cents and to the consumer for 60 cents 25 cant tea is sold to the jobber for 32 cents to the retailer for 45 c and to consumer for 75cj 85c tea is I sold to tbe jobber for 50c retailer 65c and customers for 51 This is simply tyo the extortion practiced upon people who are ignorant of the large reduction in wholesale price and the extortion is not confined to tho present high prices paid I by consumers and is not the fault of the country or manufacturers or farm I ers or producers but of a set of greedy middle men who are not only putting legitimate profits into their pockets but also actual reductions and then try to excuse their greed by claiming that while they have made no reductions in price they are selling a bettor quality The claim is a bogus one |
