Show A Statement Mr L Davis makes following i statement regarding the case republished I re-published in Saturday mornings HERALD headed A Bad Case I am the patty referred to as having hav-ing struck Mrs Davis and knocked her downstairs The statement that quarreled with my stepmother is for the rea false j I would not do so son that Mrs Davis is not of sound mind That morning she began to treat the child abusively and I interfered in-terfered When she became violent vio-lent and determined to beat her I took the child into an adjoining room and told her to gather up her clothes and gave her a bag in which I to put them Mrs Davis came to the door and in order to keep her out 1 braced up against it until the child had collected all her clothing This was in an upper room and to prevent Mrs Davis from getting at the child I put the little girl out of the window on the kitchen roof I then went downstairs with the clothes to lift the child off the roof While I was taking the child down Mrs Davis appeared and seizing the clothes ran away with them and hid them I lifted the girl down and not having the clothes I decided not to take the child away because it was so cold I let Mrs Davis take the girl and began to search for the clothes Finding I them I kept them hoping to again secure the child I then went out where I could take to find a place the girl and did not return until evening having accomplished the object I set out for When I got back Mrs Davis was in a violent passiona frequent occurrence which can only account for because be-cause of insanity due as I thinkto a shock of paralysis received by her in 180S I inquired after the girl and found she was locked np in a room As supper was prepared I told Mrs Davis to come and eat when she jumped up and hit me a I violent blow on the forehead held her down on a lounge as long as I could hold her When 1 could hold her no longer I retreated to room She assailed the door my to with violence and finally began break it in with a hatchet I braced against the door for a couple of hours until she went around and broke in a window and raising began to throw objects through it Ii gan bed then went up stairs with my ding and sat at the head to prevent her from coming up She came up the stairs and took hold of my shoulder with one hand and held a hatchet with the other loosed her hold suddenly and she fell down about four steps Being a heavy woman I feared she had injured in-jured herself and went for Dr Benedict Ben-edict who attended her I then showed him where the child was and the little thing was released |
