Show Painful Operation The HERALD recently contained the account of a man named Stephens Ste-phens of Ogden who came to this city to be operated on for tumor on the right shoulder It was decided that the affected part must be obliterated oblit-erated entirely and yesterday afternoon after-noon Drs Benedict and Pike performed per-formed the operation they amputated the arm at the shoulder joint then removed a portion of the shoulder and collar bone It was a diffiult and trying task requiring great coolness firmness and skill and the gentlemen referred to did the work in a manner which showed them to be equal to that or any similar emergency At latest advices ad-vices the unfortunate man was represented rep-resented as doing as well as possible under the circumstances The operation took place at 1 p m at the Sisters hospital The patient was under the influence of ether administered in a careful and skillful manner by Dr Gus King |
