Show t A 7 Valuable Enterprise Mr John A Groesbeck has for some time past been engaged in a I scheme which1 destined to spread I and become popular in Utahviz the sinking of artesian wells His latest experiment in this linewhich was spoken of in the HERALD a few days ago is a complete and gratify ing success the well is situated on the farm of Mr Dinwoodey in the southwestern suburbs of the city and belongs to him A HERALD representative yesterday by invitation invita-tion of Mr Groesbeck accompanied him to the premises and found everything eve-rything as previously represented being not only a pleasure in its present pres-ent contemplation but furnishing abundant food for thought The well is 122 feet deep lined with I iron pipes and discharges enough water to irrigate the farm comprising com-prising nearly fifty acrfS and some to spare The total cost was 427 and we presume the proprietor would not part with the well for five times that sum If this system of obtaining water could be generally introduced throughout Utah countless fields of lands now desolate and useless would be converted into fruitful field and made the abode of thousands thous-ands of people The soil is rich enough but without water as at present it produces nothing beneficial bene-ficial to man While the Colfaxian idea that to water is attributable everything that is worth having in Utah is good enough for Colfax and men like him being a Mother Gooseism of the most inane descrip tIonit is nevertheless certain that we cant get along without that I fluid and could do better with more of it |
