Show VOOL GROWERS Meeting of the Association at the Court House Yeserday i What Was Done The Wo91 growers Association met yesterday as per adjournment on Saturday The meeting was called to order at 130 p m by Mr Weiler there being present about thirtyfive representatives of the woI growers of Utah The purpose of the meeting was Ito I-to effect an organization among themselves to protect their interests inter-ests from further impositions by the reduction of the tarff on woolen goods After remarks from representatives representa-tives from different parts ot the Territory in regard to the necessity of a permanent organ z tim Mr Weiler was appointed TPttH > orery uhairinau and Mr Ho ari ss d I p ra y secretary The chairman then ma e a fev ram irks stating that th one chiug neaesrary was to combine 10 tk fvat a portion of the Morrit bill to reduce re-duce the tariff on woolen goodf Mr Silva who was the representative represen-tative at the Denver convention then read the proceedings of the Colorado Wool growers A98ociation organzsd at Denver Wednesday March 12th J na cuair tnen aDpont d Joseph Harker Henry Eric on Major Silva Wm Q ant James Sharp and C L Anderson as a committee to drt fc and present a constitution and by laws to govern the association associ-ation Mr Shepherd an old sheep raiser and wool grower in southern Utah was called upon and gave his views Said there was no more healthy place on the globe to raise wool if there oaly could De some remedy discovered to cure scab which was I the only disease among sheep in his section and said the best way to pure it was to move the herd about every three days he gave a long and verv interesting talk about the way to handle sheep in the country i found it was a paying thing to ship wool direct to the east for an example they sold 40000 pounds last year in Phiadelphia and cleared over SlGOO more than they could have done by selling here Thought it far better to form an association and ship their own productions not paying middle men Mr Cohn on of the middle men was then called upon but declined to talk but said he would like to inform the gentlemen present that it wool growers had shipped all their wool last year ho would have been 15000 ahead The committee then offered constitution and byslawe of the Utah Wool Growers AssocIation which are similar to those of other organizations of a like character which were adopted unanimously The annual meeting is to be held in this city in the county clerks office on April 7th at 2 p m each year according to the new bylaws Officers of the permanent organization organiza-tion were then elected as follows President E M Weiler Salt Lake vicePresident Joseph Harker Salt Lake Secretary E L Howard Salt Lake Treasurer Henry Cohn Salt Lake DirectorsHenry Erickson San pete P Healey Weber C Anderson Ander-son Tooele M K Parson Box Elder E Webb Davis Mr Silva was then elected an I honorary member and accepted in a few feeling remarks The following members then signed the constitution and bylaws as charer members VC W Weiler Taylorville Edward Ed-ward Heading City Jonas Ericeon Mount Pleasant E Webb Taylor yule W H Miller JTarmington w H Grant American Fork Joseph Bannion Taylorville James Grant Mill Creek L Bate man West Jordan E Harker Henry Harker John R Bennion Taylorville D Simper South Cottonwood i Cot-tonwood J J StookingHerreman E Stowells M P Davis City I J H Bonnermot Kaysviile Wm Rig by City Some of the gentlemen Attending Attend-ing the convention were compelled to leave efore the lists were open and consequently their names could not be obtained but it is hoped at I the next annual meeting to have at lea t a membership or 100 in this Territory a |
