Show Horse Talk For some time past there has been a notice in our columns stating that Messrs Holderman and Weaver were on their way from the east with two cars of animals and they arrived last Thursday evening Our horse reporter visited Thompson Shurtliffs stables where the animals ani-mals are quartered for the purpose of just lo king them overthere hemet he-met Mr Weaver who is in Charge of the stock He traveled all through Canada to get a lot of French mares which are particularly adapted to this country as they are blocky built tough and a kind dispositioned breed of stock He has thirty head of mares six of of which are stinted to very fine stallions In the east and will soon drop their foals Taking all in all they are the best lot ol every day all work brood mares that were ever brought to Utah One bay mare is especially noticeable as she shows fine breeding she was sired by Greens Bashaw at a cost of one hundred dollars In the lot are a double teams and single drivers for ladies All are of staple colors and between the ages of four and seven years They have three stallions one a handsome hand-some dapple grey Norman and a Leviathan colt crossed with Norman Nor-man and Clydesdale that is not 2 years old and weighs about 1400 pounds The dandy of the outfit is a brown 4year old colt Young Mc Fadden that is a big little un sired by McFadden he by Lightning Light-ning Ly Lexington His dam was by old War Eagle grand dam by Comet and great grand dam by Young Eclipse This colt is all horse and has run races all the way up from a half mile to one mile and a quarter and never was headed He ran a mile race at Joliet Illinois in 3year old form drew the outside and kept it all the way round and won the race handily In 144 Unless Un-less this colt is sold he will go Into training for racing during the season sea-son Lovers of fine horses will be pleased if they call and inspect the equines |
