| Show A Runaway Coal Fleet Pittsburg 81 This afternoon while tugboats were making up tows of coal for shipment south thirtyseven barges belonging to Joseph Walton Co containing 4500UO bushels of coal broke from their moorings at the pier at Saiith field street bridge and swept down the Driver On the way down the runaway fleet first encountered the steamer Ale Hayes with a tow of six barges and 72000 bushels The Hayes was sunk and the barges cut loose The steamer Dock ffu i ton was next struck and a tow of I seven barges and 175000 bushels sunk The Fulton was amaged < but managed to get ashore without sinking Another boat with 24000 bushels collided with the steamer tff Lawrence and sunk Two more boats with 48000 bushels were sunk at Manchester A number of towboats tow-boats started in pursuit of the runaways run-aways but at last accounts the portion por-tion of the fleet which escaped was sinking pretty well down the Ohio River |
