Tolman School will signal the start of ceremonies Nov. 24 to honor the school's crosswalk guard. ELBERT (Eb) Day, 1235 N. 400 East, will be honored the day before Thanksgiving by area residents as their way of saying "thanks" for his dedicated service to the community, com-munity, including more than 20 years as a crosswalk guard. Day, a veteran of world war II with a 100 per cent disability status, saw action in Europe, where he was wounded seven times. HE RETURNED home with a metal plate in his head that has prevented him from holding a fulltime job. He has been a member of the Bountiful Boun-tiful Police Department au- I xiliary for 30 years and a crosswalk guard for 22 years. Day will be honored for his service to the school, his community and his country by area residents and city officials. of-ficials. A flagpole, symbolic of his patriotism and dedicated dedicat-ed service, will be installed in front of his home at the corner of 400 East and 1200 North, just a few steps from where he watches over the youngsters going to and from Tolman School. THE FLAGPOLE will carry American and bicentennial flags that are brought in by the helicopter when it lands on the playing field east of the school at 10:15 a.m., according accord-ing to Marty Cox, chairman of the project. Nov. 24 was proclaimed as Elbert Day Day by Mayor Morris F. Swapp, who is scheduled as a speaker during dur-ing brief ceremonies in front of the Day home. Other speakers will indude Chief Dean O. Anderson, Bountifu police department, am youngsters and others as sociated with the school.
