mapped out the work for the summer and will put a large largo force of men to work June Just after school has closed for the tho summer vacation All AU of the changes planned have not yet been acted upon by the finance committee of ot the board but the first list of proposed expenditures has been cut down and the board will spend ap approximately approximately proximately for the work this year It cost the city last summer in getting the schools ready read for the scholastic year which closes in June The money was ex cx expended expended in painting of buildings new floors fountains addition cut down the list and will go over It again within a few days Every school Is included In the list for some repairs the estimated ex cx expenditures expenditures running from to per Jer school Most of been found to be hard upon the feet cf ct the teachers and some sort of matting to cover the hard bard surface will be purchased by the board Many of the teachers have suffered from standing upon the ce cc cement cement ment floors for long periods and the board will make a change The school has cement floors throughout mak making making ing lag the building absolutely fireproof but the flooring has already cost much suffering to the teachers Kindergarten Exits Four exits are to be cut from the thee kindergarten rooms In the basement of the Lincoln school At present the children are forced to walk w lk up a flight of ot stairs to the main floor be bc before before fore being able to leave the building It Is felt that this Is too much for the tots in addition to which It would likely prove disastrous In case of fire or any other trouble The school Is IB two twi blocks from a sewer but the board wishes to have it connected to a lateral and a movement is to be started to this end both for the benefit of the school and the residents In the western part of the city in the neighborhood of the school At the Poplar Grove GroTe school the grounds will wili be graveled and graded in preparing second ond floor toor of the Washington school which may be converted into a class classroom classroom room by making some alterations The Washington is rather rathe crowded with pupils and the new new oak floors will probably be he laid in their place Instructors and students of the art department at the High school have complained that the art room sounds like a drum when anyone walks across the floor and Mr Folland suggests that linoleum or some other material be laid on the floor to deaden the sound The capacity of the hot water reser reservoirs reservoirs reservoirs in the High school will be laid The school Is far out In the western part of ot the city and during the winter and muddy months there ther Is a good deal of trouble getting into the school because of the mud In annexing Sugar House to Salt SaIt Lake two months ago the city an annexed annexed annexed the Sugar House school from the county and there are many re repairs repairs repairs pairs needed on the building Mr Folland Found also suggests that a manual training building should be provided for the Sugar House school hool at a of and that the repairs to the building and grounds will amount to about 2000 At many of the schools where there are now drinking fountains with a single shoot of water Mr Folland suggests that four prongs be set to provide water for more children dur ing their recess and play periods on the grounds An increase in the foun will probably be made at the thee thel High school and several of the grade grado |
