returns to Salt Lake Lako this week with a com corn company company pany that Is In most respects equal to the original and at popular prices Bert and Franker Woods are clever and their support Is fully as good as was seen here before The Colonial has an attraction this week that should prove a record breaker for attendance since the public likes musical comedy and it likes It good and that is 15 what It gets In The Red Mill H II B Emery of the Martin and Emery company producing p the play Is 15 brother to former Sheriff Sheri David Emery of this county count and because of his hla acquaintance In the city feels that nothing is too good for Salt Lake Every feature of the production was presented In the best possible manner The first stage setting Is exceptionally fine the cos are attractive and new there thero Is a large company of well trained chorus singers and an excellent cast of principals The particular chorus that wins with the spectators is that of the Dutch kiddies six youngsters who do several clever cleer turns and are brought bro back many times The little girls are so pretty and winning In their Dutch costumes that women in the au a expressed a desire to hug them Someone who knew passed the word to watch for the appearance of the kiddies after the final fall of the cur tain thin and the audience stood until they were brought back It does not often orten come to the most successful artists to receIve such an ovation The Red Mill has had a great vogue since its original New York production and it is likely to be seen for many years ears to come The music of Henry Blossom and nd Victor Herbert is one of the tire reasons reasons for this exceptional success It Is melodious and catchy catch and there I are no songs that seem to have been inserted for fillers Each Is so clever in Its way that the tunes are pretty generally known Some of the favor ites are You Never Can Tell About a Woman The Isle of Our Dreams Love but You Every Day Is Ladles Day With Me and In Old New York I The roles of Conner and Con I KIdder two Americans doing Europe Eurove are well taken care of in the hands I of Bert and Franker Woods They are natural comedians and seem I Ito to be equally lly at home In the many va varied ned ried types which they Impersonate As American boys they make good and andare andare andare are only a little better when one be becomes becomes i comes a waiter w lter and the other ter for the Inn Some of the most amusing lines and scenes of the piece occur at this point the play between the waiter walter and the tourist bringing down the house In the second act these two appear as Italian street sing singers singers singers ers and make a hit with their song Good aBye John Again as Sher Sherlock Sherlock Sherlock lock Holmes and Dr Watson they score A large part of the good impression created by the musical comedy Is ia due to their work Harry R B McClain who was with the original in the role of the governor of Zeeland Is another effi efficient lent dent member of the present cast He HeIs HeI Heis I Is inimitable In his ways and his song son Every Day Is Ladies Day With Me Meis Meis is one of the New Kew York production THEATRE So many numbers of vocal and in instrumental Instrumental instrumental music are included in the present Orpheum bill that it seems like a recital A play of Chinese life and an acrobatic act acl are the only I numbers that lend variety The music Itself Is so excellent and so many dif dir different different ferent features are offered that the audience does not become wearied even when the headliner Is led up to by one or two numbers that are not of the first order of merit Madame Mauricia coloratura soprano from the Manhattan opera house of ot New York gives an artistic entertainment of grand opera and ballad music which is isa Isa isa a distinct novelty for the vaudeville stage where popular songs are much more in vogue Her voice is sweet and strong and her coloratura work is true In enunciation of the English songs she seems at but that is permitted to the foreigners Her grand opera songs were selections from Offenbach and an aria and the drinking song from Ver Verdis Verdis dis La Traviata She also gave Gar Oar Garden Garden den of Roses and as an encore Home Sweet Swept Home with exquisite effect I Another excellent musical perform heavy and at times coarse and whose songs have little sweetness of melody to commend comme d them Miss Lillian Ashley is a little comedienne who re relies relies lies on her powers of ot mimicry to make an Impression She sings several pap ular songs with good effect The last las act Bergs six merry girls combine music with dancing and some attractive attractive tive specialties With the tile
