Show REQUEST OF THE MINORS REFUSED I Cincinnati 0 Jan aIn a decisIon rea hed tOday by Thomas J J Lynch dent of the National league Ban B Johnson president of the American league I and August Herrmann of Cincinnati comprising the national baseball commission I the latter body tonight denied the request of Class C and B leagues for an amend amendment amendment ment ot of the rule concerning the purchase of minor leagUe players The attention ot of the commission was called to the case by J H Farrell see sec secretary of the National association who submitted a resolution offered at the re me recent cent meeting held at Memphis by the Class C and D leagues requesting that rule 36 26 be amended so that minor league players can be pUrchased by one minor league club from rom another without having such players report to the club on or before the commencement of the major league drafting season As the rule now stands when mInor league players are purchased by one i minor league club from another and they do not report by September 1 they are 8 subject to draft from the Clubs that they are with on August roo 3 The commission In Its ruling says We reiterate that If the rule were changed so as to cover the request as now made It would be detrimental not only to the major league and Class A clubs but all players operating under organized baseball as well The statement recently Issued by the national commission shows the amounts major league clubs alone last year rear for drafted and purchased play ers era o 0 be about and in addition to this It if all the players In question are to be e retained payments amounting to practically additional are made This shows that the minor league eague Inter Interests Interests ests have been f fully lIy protected The re request request quest of the Class C and D clubs is there pre refused |
