Show JOHN COOK PASSES I a I AT THE AGE OF 91 aI I I Was Known as Honest John and Came Here in m 1849 t John Cook who has been a resident of Salt Lake and Utah since 1849 died yes yesterday yesterday at the tho home of his son W L Cook 3 34 A A street ot of general debility aged 91 Mr Cook was born In Saltwell near Blanchester England 24 3 IBIS 1818 he lived until about thirty years Jt f age He then emigrated to the United C lj ti w F 1 x k R e n ty 3 g y i JOHN COOK States coming direct to Utah as one of the pioneers He engaged In the butcher business In Salt Lake Lale In 1871 and at one onetime tim time was associated with C C Clanfield under the firm name of Cook and Clan Clanfield field While In business In this city Mr 1111 Cook was known to his business ass asse clat s as Honest John He continued In this business until about sixteen years ears ago when he retired having amassed n a fairly large fortune Since that time he has been traveling through the west mostly In California and up to the daY of his death was In perfect health Unit about ten minutes be before foro he passed awa awaS he Was has on his feet and had not com complained complained ot of feeling m ill He is survIved by six children as fol follows follows lows Mrs Hugh Park and Dr Eliza Cook of Sheridan Nev John It IL Cook prominent In mining circles In Pioche Ne Nor W V L Cook who is official stenographer stenographer of the Filth Fifth Judicial court of Utah wIth a residence In Salt Lake Mrs P P Pratt of Los Angeles Cal and Mrs Irs J L ot of this city Owing to the tact fact that communication by wIre with Nev has been cut cutoff oft off W T L Cook of this citY luis has been un unable unable able to get word to John R It Cook at that point but he said last night that a mes messenger messenger had been sent front from another near nearby nearby by point and word Vord was expected from his brother early today Arrangements for tor forthe the funeral have not been fully made and will be announced as soon as th the relatives are Mr Cook said last night that the time would woul pr probably bably be tomorrow and the funeral would most likely be b held from Evans establishment The burial will be in the City cemetery 4 |
