Show MASS MEETING IS POORLY ATTENDED We Dont Eat Meat League Falls Fails in Its Desired Purpose The movement to organize a We Dont Eat Meat League failed of Its purpose at a mass meeting held at Federation of Labor last evening because of the small attendance Less than people were attracted to the gathering and It was decided after long discussion and de deliberation deliberation liberation to defer action on the motion to boycott meat butter and eggs until a future meeting when It Is believed there will be a greater attendance As a result of this action last evenings meeting may be said to have been productive of 01 little In the way of results In that no remedies for tor combating the hIgh cost plague were agreed upon The entire meeting was given over to i expressions of sentiment Because of pre previous previous engagements the members of the city council or the Womans League were present It had been hoped to have short talks by some of the prominent club women and their failure to put In an ap appearance appearance put a damper upon the enthusiasm There was much talk of a cooperative store more on the matter of a public mar market market ket and a lIttle with reference to a boy boycott boycott cott on meat eggs and provisions It was announced that the committee named a week ago to devise ways and means for remedying the situation would meet on Monday night to listen to plans and that thata a report would be made later In the week whereat It was deemed advisable that no action be taken until such time as It was seen fit to recommend some certain plan The agitation for a cooperative store was not received with as much en enthusiasm enthusiasm as was anticipated there be a number of the belief that such a proposition would prove a failure On the other hand the idea of a public mar market market ket where the farmers could deal direct with the consumer thus eliminating the Jobber or middle man was well received by the gathering and steps to this end ma may soon be taken Perhaps the principal talk of the even evenIng evening Ing was made by the Rev Dr Francis B Short pastor of the lo First Iret M 11 E church who talked at length on the economical and ethical sides of the movement and who advocated concerted and united ac action action tion as a remedy F B Scott pre presided and RUdolph Marti was secretary of the meeting |
