Show FORMER MARSHAL IS CALLED HOME J T D 0 McAllister Held Many Offices in Church and the Municipality The funeral services over the remains of John T D McAllister who died Fri Friday Friday day night at St George will be held today at ManU Manti where the body has been taken for tor Interment By reason of the tact fact that Mr McAllister was at one onetime onetime time president of the St George stake and of the Mantl Manti temple and also one of the oldest pioneers In the country the Ule funeral today Is expected to be one of the largest ever held In southern Utah Mr McAllister was 83 years of age w when en he died his death being due to natural disabilities occasioned by old age In July 1848 Mr McAllister joined the main body of Mormons which start started started ed for the valley of Salt Lake July 1 1851 His wife formerly Ellen Hand Handley hey ley accompanied him on his journey to the Salt Lake country the trip being made In three months While on the road Mr McAllister was appointed see sec of Eltred Elfred Cordons company of fifty wagons For years the deceased was one of the most prominent In both and affairs In Salt Lake In April 1852 he was appointed to fill a mission in England and on his return ho he was chosen president of the sIxteenth quorum of seventy and elected major of the Second battalIon of the Nauvoo Legion During the years 1862 he filled another missIon to the United States and to Europe On his return from that he was elected city marshal of Salt Lake and territorial marshal and chief ot of the fire depart department department ment He was fas chosen president of the St stake April 5 1877 In 1893 his services were commanded lb Ih the Salt Lake temple and In the same year he was chosen to preside over the Man ManU Manti U ti temple News of his death was received with regret by hundreds of Salt Lake people His son Brigham W McAllister Is di directing directing the arrangements for tor the tuner funer funeral al aI and accompanied the body from St StI StGeorge George to Manti I L |
