THE buffing machines were then run over half the floor, which had just had its second sealer coat-type of varnish-leaving several gouges in the fresh material. J. Rob'rt Folsom, WSC director of planning and construction, con-struction, said the floor had just been treated with its second of three sealer coats, and the striping painted, ready for lettering inside the center circle, when the vandals van-dals got inside. HE SAID the contractor would lose at least a week's time in getting the facility ready for formal opening Nov. 1. Mr. Folsom said it was not known how the prowlers got inside, although it was possible possi-ble they could have forced open one of the doors. ENTRY was gained some . .. time after quitting time Saturday Sa-turday afternoon, Sept. 17. The break-in was discovered Monday morning when the painting crew arrived. Mr. Folsom said the vandals van-dals used the buffing machines-fitted with 18-inch steel wheels both with and without steel wool pads. The machines gouged the floor in several places. If the gouges cannot now be smoothed over when crews sand it down, it is likely that several dents will remain in the expensive maple floor, Mr. Folsom said. THE machines with padded wheels are used to buff down a floor after the sealing coat has been painted in preparation prepara-tion for a following coat. Three sealer coats are to be applied, and then the floor should "set" for 30 days before being used, Mr. Folsom Fol-som said. |
