Show Time To Act Now Or It Will Be Too Late The countdown has started for major redevelopment in Bountiful. At the Redevelopment Redevelop-ment Agency meeting on May 28, 1980 they put into motion the action for hiring a director of redevleopment. The requirements re-quirements were listed as: "Knowledge of and skill in real estate, development agreements, agree-ments, economic transactions, financing and bonding procee-dures procee-dures unique to redevelopment redevelop-ment projects." The deadline for applications is June 30, 1980. The suggested salary was $18,000 ja $22,000. THE CITY council is having acute financial and budgetary problems and has fired 15 or more workers recently, but are not batting an eye at creating a new position, a new bureau at the cost of approximately $20,000 a year. What's more, the council members are talking talk-ing of going ahead "vigorously" "vigorous-ly" to get a "dynamic and strong" man to handle the problems. Of course, the big problem is acquiring the property of ten blocks of downtown Bountiful currently owned by small businesses and homeowners. According to the law that can be done by negotiation, purchase purch-ase or condemnation. ACCORDING to the mayor at a meeting on June 4, 35 percent per-cent of the owners are "with them" and their was talk of signing for and paying earnest money. But what about the 65 percent per-cent who are either opposed to forced redevelopment or are in ingnorance of the current action? ac-tion? Since when can a minority minor-ity of 35 percent force their will down the throats of the majority? ma-jority? THE "Invitation for Proposals" Propos-als" to commercial developers has been organized and "All proposals shall be submitted on or before 2 p.m. local time July 31, 1980..." The time to act is now or it will soon be too late to stop this action of the Redevelopment Agency. D.O. Billings Bountiful |
