Show Davis Hearing On Gravel Pit A proposal to allow a gravel pit operation near South Weber will be considered in a joint hearing of the Davis County Commission and Davis County Planning Commission Com-mission on June 7 if the matter mat-ter is not resolved first by an annexation proposal. SOUTH WEBER will meet in a city council meeting on May 24 to consider action on annexing 500 acres of land, including the site proposed for the gravel plant. Parsons Asphalt Products proposed the construction of an asphalt plant and crushing facility, in addition to a gravel pit excavation ex-cavation about nine months ago. The 70 acre plot west of Highway 89, southeast of the Weber-Davis Canal is now a part of the county. But if the annexation is approved, the land will be a part of South Weber. Parson's presently operates one gravel pit within the city boundaries. About 100 residents from South Weber appeared in county commission commis-sion chambers last fall to protest the other plant near the city limits. Since that time, the matter has been in the negotiating state, awaiting await-ing the passage of a county excavation ordinance. ALTHOUGH the excavation ordinance has been presented to the planning commission in the first draft stage, the matter mat-ter has not been approved by the planning commission. The ordinance cannot be adopted until it gains approval from the county commission. Joseph Moore, county planner, says he anticipates an-ticipates the planning commission com-mission will call for a public hearing on the ordinance before they decide to approve the document. After months of working through the problem, Parson's Par-son's officials presented an ex-cavation ex-cavation and reclamation plan to the planning commission commis-sion which met the standards specified in the proposed excavation ex-cavation plan. South Weber Mayor John Combe said if the city annexes the property, they plan to adopt the county excavation ex-cavation ordinance currently under consideration.
