Show Wildcats Expect Good Finish From Urestlers j By DAVE WIGHAM i WOODS CROSS W resiling is a tough sport to i compete in on even terms but (. without seniors on the club i tde going gets tougher. Last year the Wildcats went head o head with the best teams and held their own without he upper class. This year the Cats have those seniors and : . are ready to make their move. COACH BOB Steele started v lne wrestling program off last vear with a lot of unknown ialent. He knew he had one or wo kids that were good but i' no one knew just how good if hey really were. Now that everyone knows how good is some of the Cats' grapplers );: are. the program is off and i; running. Even with seniors on the B rlub probably the best i wrestler on the team is still :i. an underclassman in junior jason Whitney. LAST YEAR as a sophomore Jason competed in he 185 pound class, which , C: was ten pounds more than he actually weighed. He still a managed to win the Region Four title and went on to : place fourth in the state meet. He's the top returning . wrestler in that weight this 111" season and is looking for that E. individual title. "Jason cer- uiinly has the ability to win rex ihe title and he's dedicated enough to work for it," noted Ins coach. J'V SENIOR PAT Shuldberg is back after a second place region and fifth place state , finish a year ago. This year cf Pat will wrestle in the 112 pound slot and is being counted on heavily again this season. 1 5 Another senior, Stu Egan is scheduled to return at the 155 pound classification where he placed second in region competition last year Junior Jeff Lewis is pushing for the varsity spot in this weight also. MATT OWEN is another senior returning for another year of varsity action. A year ago Matt placed third in region and is back in the 119 pound class. Letterman Andy Boehme is back in the heavyweight classification clas-sification with more bulk, strength, experience and confidence. con-fidence. This weight is always tough and Andy has the tools to place high this year. DOWN ON the other end of the ladder letterman Mark Jacobs (98), Richard Hatch (105) and Joel Borg (126) are slated for action. Mark is a returning junior. Hatch a sophomore and Borg a senior. In the middleweights the Wildcats look to either Curtis Knight or Danny Robison, a couple of juniors, at 132, junior letterman Marty Tipetts at 138 and junior letterman let-terman Todd Jones at 145. ANOTHER returning letter-man letter-man is junior Mark Tate who'll carry the colors at 167 which is always one of the toughest classifications to wrestle in. Coach Steele points to Box Elder as the top team in the region. "They have two returning re-turning state champions and a second place finisher." His Cats placed fourth in region a year ago but with the experienced people he has and the talent they possess the Cats are looking for a higher finish. |
