Show "Take Down" Worth Seeing By DAVE WIGHAM It probably won't get an Academy Award for anything but the local movie 'Take Down" certainly is one worth seeing. Judging from the crowds that have been flocking to the theaters I'm not the only one who feels this way. "TAKE DOWN" is the project of a local man, Kieth Merrill, who is known in Hollywood for his work. Kieth took an idea of his, then took the camera crews to American Fork and using mostly local talent put together the movie. The story of the movie is simple. Take two high schools, one from the poor city and another powerful school from the rich area. The poor people have never won an athletic contest from the other school in a long time. THE SENIORS, coming off a terrible football season, realize that basketball and track will be a joke and that their only hope of beating the other school is in wrestling. The principal makes the English teacher the coach. He is working on his PhD. and wants to teach at Harvard University. The coach's wife is the great inspiration behind the movie-she gets into this coaching scene full force. THE BIG problem facing the poor guys is finding someone who will wrestle the big stud of the rich school, called Rockville High, in the 185 pound class. This role is played by former Bountiful High star Larry Miller who is now playing football at BYU. After finding a kid who is failing English to wrestle at 185 the fun begins. . ; THE ENDING is great with these two schools squaring off in a duel match. To-watch the characters who wrestle for the poor school, called Mingo Junction, is something ' to behold. They pull off every trick available. The conclusion of the movie is a little touch of Hollywood but nevertheless the audience loves it. IT WAS funny to watch the Viewmont wrestling team up on the big scene, funny in the sense that you don't expect it. The showing we were at there were mixed reactions to the Vikings, some cheered others did the opposite. What do you expect, the movie is playing in Woods Cross. The thing that got to me was the people sitting around me. Every time Miller was on the scene people were saying "I know that guy from somewhere." Finally the girl behind me recognized him and through her pretty soon everyone knew who he was. IF YOU'RE looking for a movie that will have you cheering in the end, out loud even, then pack up the kids and go see 'Take Down." It's well worth the time and money involved. |
