Show By DAVE WIGHAM, PROVO - Midnight finally struck the Bountiful soccer team as their Cinderella story in the state tournament came lo an end on the Brigham Young soccer field last Saturday. Sa-turday. ' , BEFORE the clock had struck midnight though the young and talented Braves had left a mark on the soccer world. Going into the state playoffs the Braves were among the also rans, after all they only finished second in the region standings. First game up the Braves downed Provo 4-1, which is one game they were supposed to win. Then the Braves lost in overtime to Cottonwood 1-0, this seemed to wake them up. THE SIGN of a good club is one that gets better, and the. Braves improved greatly during their next few games. Following their loss, in the double elimination affair the Braves were matched up against the always tough West ijub. Bountiful came away with the win and the Braves were on their way. Olympus was next and they were supposed to beat the Braves but again the Bountiful Boun-tiful club played good solid soccer and came away with the win. That set the stage for a Bountiful and Viewmont contest. REMEMBERING that the Vikings had already beaten Bountiful twice in league play the so-called experts picked the Vikes as the winner again. The Braves scored first with Ray Parkhurst getting the goal and held that lead until with ten seconds left in the game the Vikings tied the score sending it into overtime. over-time. Parkhurst and Jay Parkin each got goals in the overtime period to give the Braves a 3-1 victory and eliminate Viewmont View-mont from the tournament. THE VIEWMONT win came on Monday and on Wednesday the Braves faced Hillcrest. The Huskies had won their region and were considered one of the best clubs in the state, again the Braves were considerable underdogs. un-derdogs.
