ClSiaffo i Sept 5Corn continued to climb today urged on by crop damage I reports and closed 8 higher for May but wheat failed to connect finishing at a I loss cd 2c for December September n oats closed unchanged and provisions wound up with losses all around Wheat started a shade easier than i L closed yesterday but that feeling only lasted z few seconds at the end of which tune it recovered the U dec dine with which it opened and quickly added anothtr 1c0V per fcushfcl The firmness of the Liverpool market and the smallness of the northwestern receipts were the most reliable features of the early news and another rise in the price of corn was a further encouragement encourage-ment to the bulls In wheat December started at 56 and a little of it changed hands aV l16c under that I recovered to S7gS7 and settled down Into a deep rut at 5755714 So dull did i become at the latter point that for a long time I could not be bought at 57 nor sold at 67 and extremely little was either to struggle for a moment or two at the sUirV against the effect of heavier local foc lpts than bad been estimated The r price rose until It knocked up against the call price when it fell off about 8 and then hung In a state of suspended 1 animation half way between the opening and the highest point of the early advance ad-vance Short sellers claimed that the shortage of this years corn crop has been heavily overestimated The longs thought to the contrary the effects of the drouth has been by no means exaggerated exag-gerated The party expressing the latter views Is for the present in the
