The Smart Steppers Baton Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns high community school. Admission is free and new twirlers are being invited. Registrations are being accepted at the school for the Smart Steppers parade twirling sessions for ages six and over. Classes will be held from 4:30 to 5; 15 p.m. each Tuesday beginning April 7. Classes m successful financial planning will be offered through the Granite Community Education program Tuesday through April 21 at Taylorsville Increasingly Americans are confronted with a confusing challenge, how to get the most out of their money in todays complex economic environment, a spokesman said. The class has been designed to assist individuals to sort out the confusion of the many financial opportunities and then to recognize how planning for a financial future can make a difference, he said. Topics will include, ways to save taxes today and at the same time provide dollars for future goals; how to properly prepare for major financial risks, and affordable ways of investing and saving regardless of ones budget. Also, How to structure ssvings, investing and insurance programs for todays economy, the cost of waiting to plan a financial future and the impact of inflation. Many adults are reluctant to start up again once they have dropped out of school, said coordinator Joe Rickards Many reasons are given for this, but it really all boils down to the fact that it is hard for these students to see themselves succeeding in a school system where previously they had experienced failure. The Kearns program is set up to help adults develop a success image about themselves and their schooling experience, he said The course content will deal with developing a healthy removing barriers to success, being assertive, problem solving and decision making skills, and goal setting. Laron Olson, a counselor at KHS, will instruct the class and has drawn upon a lot of resources to make it interesting and exciting, said Rickard. Other classes offered at Kearns include handwriting analysis, starting your own business, legal terminology, childrens dance, gymnastics, floral arranging, yoga, and much more, offering something of interest to everyone, he concluded. Maybe I should get involved in a club like that Yeah, its a lot of fun Granite was represented well at the state competition We had six finalists out of the 15 participating students. Out of those six, Linda Vea and Jeannie Moody placed second in free enterprise competition, Chris VanLeeuwen placed first in restaurant and Chad Korb placed first in general merchandising These four people will attend national competition April 29 to May 3. National competition is held in New Orleans, so this will be a nice vaca- Do you ever feel like all your teachers hate you If you answered yes, its probably because this is the last week of the term and all your teachers are giving tests to help determine your grade for the third term. Yes, the end of the term is always a hard time to live through. There needs to be A time for us to get away from it all. This time was last Friday when Junior Prom was held at the Sheraton Hotel ballroom. It was quite a success and everyone had a lot of fun Last week was not only a busy week for the juniors, but was also one for the seniors who were Sterling Scholars Last week the 12 Sterling Scholars from our school had interviews and presentations. Six of our Sterling Scholars made it to the finals next week.
