Dedication of the Hunter st building in Hunter stake Sunday was highlighted by a quilt West to presentation the stake presidency. The idea for the quilts originated more than three years ago with Jean Doxford, wife of the stake president. It represents countless hours of effort by the four women who brought the idea to life. Work was begun at the time of the ground breaking in April, 1979 and an entire year was spent obtaining materials for the coverings that would match the bedroom decor of the recipients. The hardest part of the job was shouldered by Della Hales, who did all of the art work and calligraphy on the quilts, which offer a historical overlay of the people who worked to make the building a reality. The quilts, done in various shades of permanent blue ink, feature a sketch of the building, complete with shrubs and trees. The area below is divided into sections that have the names of the stake presidency and their wives, as well as the various auxiliary organization officers who held office when the ground was broken for the building. Those who tied the quilts include Judy Searle, Debbie Doxford and Jean Doxford. Recipients of the coverlets were Aaron Dee Doxford, Hunter West Stake president and his counselors, John N. Groll and David R. Osborn. The new building sits on 2.8 acres of ground during the Depression. Later it was purchased by the LDS church and produced about 67,000 tomatoes a season. At present, it houses three wards of Hunter West stake. Clyde Hendrickson is bishop of the 12th ward with 675 members; David Wood, bishop of the 21st ward with 890 members; the 16th ward, headed by Tom-mi- e Miller, bishop, has 524 members. The first church meeting held in the building was conducted on May 25, 1980. It houses a chapel, cultural hall, Relief Society room, junior chapel and 32 teaching stations, as well as a library, kitchen and restrooms. The building is carpeted throughout, including that was formerly the cultural hall which is used for dinners, programs, athletics and drama.
