Show 4 THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, March 24, 1988 SPORTS Green Sheet Girls Honor Squad Williams Is Easy MVP Choice 1988 by Bob Mickelson Sports Editor THE STARTERS MURRAY. The basketball season for girls high school teams from the Green Sheet area was no less spectactular than for the boys, with one team, Taylorsville, battling its way right into 4A championship finals. Keeping that in mind, makes one appreciate just how difficult it is to select an all-stteam. In fact, its every bit as tough as it for the boys and just as much time, effort and agonizing went into it. The only place there seemed to be a clear choice was in the naming of a Most Valuable Player. It should come as no Christofferson sparked the Lady Pirates to a state appearance by notching 5.7 points, three assists and two rebounds a game. She shots this also hit 27 three-point season. Of course taking his team all the way to the . 4A state championship game and coaching great young players like Natalie Williams and Wendy Taylor, just to mention a couple, mightve had something to do with that. For the second year in a row, the girls basketball team from Taylorsville high made it to the championship finals and the for the second time it finished second. But the similarities end, as after being routed by Clearfield last year, the Lady Warriors battled right down to the final seconds and came within a single point of dethroning the Falcons. The season past just represented another step of the ladder for the Lady Warriors, who, with people like Williams and Taylor returning, could very possibly return to make the final assault. Coaching success at the high school level has a way of claiming good coaches. So it was for Taylorsville when last years head right at Cottonwood. As proof, Lambourne offers the fact that only six teams ever scored more than 40 points on the Lady Warriors all season. Taylorsvilles loss to Clearfield had to be a painful conclusion to the season, depsite the teams overall performance. Lambourne knew his players wouldnt exactly be in a partying mood when he went back to locker room afterward. His first thoughts and words were directed at lifting their heads and their spirits.
