Interestingly enough, injuries to children under five years of age seemed to be related to riding toys, toy box lids being slammed on unsuspecting hands and wooden blocks being used as projectiles. On the other hand older kids got into trouble with flying toys, toy weapons, model cars and planes, hard balls, and riding three and four wheeled vehicles into the street. To insure a safe and sane Christmas, toy buyers are urged to choose toys to suit the age and skills of the child that they are intended for, and since not all are labeled with the toys recommended ages the Consumer Product Safety Commission has compiled a list of recommendations for choosing the right toy for the right kid. Toy shoppers are encouraged to look for good solid construction, even in stuffed toys, to make sure that their eyes, noses and other small parts are securely fastened so that they dont end up up some childs nose or down their throat. Also shoppers need to be on the alert for long strings that could get wrapped around a small childs neck. The CPSC also recommends that if you are buying toys with darts and arrows, make sure that they are equipped with soft rubber or cork tips. Electric toys which have heating elements should never be purchased for children under eight years of age, and they should only be used with adult supervision. Toys to avoid are those that propel objects, such as darts and arrows or marbles etc., which may injure eyes. Small children can also choke on a balloon, marbles or a small ball. Shoppers should also look for c labels on the toys they so that they can be sure that buy in the toy the materials construction will resist splinter- non-toxi- THANK YOU We would like to thank you for participating in our voluntary pay program. To do this they need to establish some ground rules about who plays with what in their home, and teach older children to keep their toys away from the small fry in the house. In addition they should keep all toys with small parts away from kids under age three, as well as those who may be older in age but still put toys and other objects into their Go0 mouths. Parents should examine the toys from time to time for sharp edges or parts that might be missing. Then they should either repair the damage immediately or toss the defective toy into the garbage.
