Salt Lake County has done too little planning and has seldom listened to, or sought, the will of the people. 1 offer voters clear, positive a county employe and citizen involvement in decision making. Ive demonstrated my administrative abilities and management skills. I have no special-interecommitments. I consider the chance to serve people a blessing of citizenship, not a business opportunity. My wife Patti and I live in West Valley City. We expect our second child in December. Everyone who lives in this valley pays county taxes and votes for county commissioners -even voters who live in cities. And everyone deserves equal representation in county government. st PAINTS small business community, I can exercise the independent judgement necessary to serve the taxpayers. Good intentions and an independent status are not the end but rather the beginning qualifications that I believe would make me an effective commissioner. Salt Lake County is a dollar business with hundreds of employes. My experience in meeting payrolls, hiring and dismissing employes, along with managing a budget, are essential in a commissioner. Many of the present multi-millio- sionals in local government stem from disregard for the needs of the citizens. No one, operating a people-orientebusiness could survive for a month with similar disregard and we need commissioners who understand that their first obligation is to serve the people. It is this experience in dealing with people, handling large sums of money and learning to succeed in the business world that separates me from my opponent. As a commissioner, 1 would seek to redirect the emphasis of government to the level closest to the people through local municipalities and community councils.
