Show horatio pickett called horatio pickett departed this life dec 21 1918 of pneumonia following influenza he was born at winter quarters may 10 1848 a son of william and susanna M pickett came to utah when a little boy and located at salt lake city when but a boy of 16 years he went back to the missouri river to help bring immigrants across the plains with bis mother he came to st george in 1861 arriving here in december with the pioneers of dixie he was a carpenter by trade and on all the principal buildings here in the early days among them the temple and the tabernacle he was associated with the late E B snow in the undertaking der taking business he held many offices at different times was county attorney tor several years counselor to bishop david milne in the first ward and alter wards to bishop thomas judd was doorkeeper and janitor at the st george temple about 10 years and at the time of his death was engineer there he held the office or high in the L D S church was stake chorister tor about 26 years and was superintendent ot the first ward sunday school for many years he was twice married bis first wife being harriet josephine johnson who died about 26 years ago he was married to bis second wife pallena hunt who survives him at the st george temple aug 8 1895 his surviving children ot the first marriage are mrs charles A workman ot hurricane utah mrs arthur woodbury of la verken utah mrs henry gubler ot la verken utah leo pickett ot provo utah henry pickett ot st george utah now in france eells J pickett of hurricane utah and aleut chas E pickett now in france all married except charles surviving children ot the second marriage mrs orson hall and mrs alvan hall both ot hurricane utah paul in U S navy at san francisco miss laverne and miss una ot st george horatio pickett was a man ot very kindly disposition and deep sympathy Is extended the stricken family in their sorrow funeral services were held at the last sunday presided over by bishop I 1 C macfarlane and were brief on account of the flu condition pres david H cannon eulogized the alto of deceased and offered consoling remarks to the bereaved rock of ages and jesus lover of my soul were duag and the grave was dedicated by pres E H kaow |
