Show C. of C. Helps Save Dam Above Indian Reservation Annual Meeting To Be Held Wednesday, Jan. 4, To Hear Secretary's Report And Elect Officers An attempt to rush repair work and save further damage to the reservoir dam above the Indian farm was made last week at a meeting of the St. George Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, representatives from Santa Clara, Washington, and the Canal Companies were present. The purpose of this gathering was to arrange a meeting with the soil conservation, CCC, and Forest Service people, in order to obtain their cooperation in rushing rush-ing this work before another flood does further damage. Several other projects to be sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce were outlined at this meeting. Plans were formulated to assist the Washington people in building a bridge across the Virgin Vir-gin river at the Washington field crossing. The Commerce also plans to help obtain aid through governmental agencies to control the river where it is destroying farm land. This will be done by bringing the problem before the Associated Civics clubs. Arrangements Arrange-ments were also completed for the maintance of the airport on the hill. Anson B. Announcement was :,.". at this time by the chamber ihat the officers will be re-elected on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Jan. 4, in the Wads-worth Wads-worth Building at 4 p.m. on the above date. The new members will be voted for in the same manner as last year, that is there will be two names presented by each of the following organiza tions: Schools, City, Rotary Club, Lions Club, American Legion, St. George Business People's Organization Organi-zation and possibly six from the Chamber of Commerce membership. member-ship. The present officers of the Chamber may recommend that the members elected from the Chamber of Commerce last year be given another term and that those elected this year be elected for a two year term. This procedure pro-cedure would give the Chamber of Commerce hold over members each year, which the present officers of-ficers are inclined to think would make for a more efficient Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce than to have "all new members elected each year. Organizations which have presented names for this year's election are: Schools, B. Glen Smith and H. L. Reid; Rotary Club, Walter Cannon and R. N. Ashby; Lions Club, Howard Cannon Can-non and Val McArthur, other selections have not been made to-date. All members and people who are interested are invited to attend this meeting. The following men are in office at the present time: Marian Snow, president; Newell Frei, vice-president; Laron Andrus, secretary and treasurer; Harold Miles, Walter Cannon, Lawrence Wadsworth, Gordon Mathis, Wallace B. Mathis, Mathew Bentley and M. J. Miles. |
