Show Firemen Elect Officers And Review Activities Monday night, Dec. 17, the St. i George Fire Department members held their annual meeting for the purpose of reviewing the year's work and election of officers for the coming year. The session was held in the club room of the Fire station, and results of the election showed Bert G. Milne as president; presi-dent; M. O. Hutchings, vice-president' and Willard Milne, secretary and treasurer for 1939, replacing Clark Blake. Howard Cannon and M. O. Hutchings, who held the respective offices for 1938. The fire chief with his assistant and two captains will be holdovers for the new year, the chief being officially appointed by the Mayor and city council through the ap proval of the organization of Firemen. Fire-men. The board of four directors elected to serve for 1939 includes Howard W. Cannon, Clark Empey, Bill Hurd and Andrew McArthur, who replace R. N. Ashby, Ken Judd. George Whipple and Wesley Wes-ley Mullett, 1938 incumbents. Julio Paulasso is retained as Fire chief, with Bob Pickett, his assistant, as-sistant, and Karl Hutchings and Fred Booth as the two captains. This makes the line-up complete for the ensuing year and those concerned feel the club is again well officered. Outstanding Year Commenting on the past year's program, sponsors of this organi- zation and city officials feel that the outgoing officers are to be highly commended for their excellent ex-cellent work within the club, and the entire organization for their cooperative and splendid service. Realizing that most of the members of the club have had no past experience, it is readily understood that much work and patience are necessary in attempting attempt-ing to make the St. George Volunteer Volun-teer Fire Department one of the best in the state. However, the organization is especially grateful for the excellent work and guidance guid-ance of their fire chief, Julio Paulasso, who has shown the wis-. wis-. dom of exprrience in teaching I (Continued on page four) Firemen Reorganize (Continued from first page) the firemen the art of fire fighting fight-ing and in organizing them for the most efficient service. Since January 1, 193S, this city has had 16 fires, with a very nominal actual property loss of $2,860.00. However, the total property threatened by fire, not including adjacent properties, is given as 5S6.S00.00. Of this amount it is claimed that only 11,300.00 was covered by insurance. Thus it is shown, that during these 16 fires the citizens of St. George were faced with a potential, or possible loss of at least $72,640.00 worth of property during the year, and without the aid of the fire department, the total actual loss would undoubtedly have mounted far beyond the figures given. In the interests of their properties proper-ties personally and of the community com-munity as a whole, citizens are strongly urged to consult the fire department, whose officers are willing and ready to assist by answering any questions or doing all within their power to reduce fire hazzards and to help them protect their properties from loss by fire. They will gladly examine homes for faulty flues, without cost to the owners. The club also extends a vote of thanks to George Seegmiller and to Harold S. Snow for their voluntary' volun-tary' contributions to the Fire Department, De-partment, and extend hearty wishes to the citizens for a more fireless 1939. |
