Show Dixie College News j President Snow, Mr. Bleak and a group of musicians returned on Thursday from an exchange program pro-gram tour which included a number num-ber of Southern Utah high schools and the Brigham Young university. univer-sity. They gave a program over KSUB at Cedar City on Thursday Thurs-day afternoon. Vela Washburn of Blanding was elected "D" queen last Friday. Fri-day. She will reign supreme on Dixie Day, and will be crowned in a beautiful ceremony at the Dixie Day dance. Other candidates for queen will serve as maids of honor to Miss Washburn. They are: Ona Russell, Mildred Bentley, Roma Snow, Virginia McArthur. Maurine Gard-j Gard-j ner, and Pauline Schmutz. All of the girls are seniors. The election was held earlier than is customary' in order to have sufficient time for preparation prepara-tion for the day. Monday the Bushwhacker club of the college started its annual beard growing contest. The lower division speech class, under the direction of Miss Henderson, Hen-derson, will present the program in assembly tomorrow. The Dixie i quartet presented an excellent program last Friday. The debaters reported their California trip last week, while Mr. Hardy's Health Education class gave Wednesday's orientation program. A survey of commercial positions posi-tions in St. George has just been completed as a project of the secretarial practice class under Mr. Peterson. The report shows at present 30 men and 31 women employed in full-time commercial positions. The majority of the positions require junior college graduation. The date for the Junior Prom has been set for April 5. The theme "Dixie" will feature songs and decorations of the "Old Colonial South". The winter quarter closes- this week. A number of new courses are offered for the spring quarter land a number of new students are expected to enroll. ' The college has received an ad-1 ad-1 ditional grant of $116 from the Carnegie Foundation in New York. The major grant three years ago was for $3000 to be used during the three-year period. Basketball fans have a treat in store tonight when the All-1 All-1 American Redheads, world cham- pionship girls' team, plays the ! college and high school teams. Earl Hafen won the Washington birthday oratorical contest last J Thursday. His subject was "A firmer Tread". Other contestants in the finals were Delsey Wood-' Wood-' bury and Clarence Snow. A beau-'. beau-'. tiful medal will be awarded the winner on honor day. |
