Parties who came in from liangely report between 400 and TiOO Indians camped on I)on,r. as Spring-, Sulphur and Cathedral creeks, in the vicinity of Uangeley, and killing- deer iu g-reat numliers! The country where they are camper is near the. locality where the killing occurred last yea'. Word has been received which indicates indi-cates serious trouble ahead, if the situ- ' lion does not change in the next few clays. A prominent cattleman and rancher says the Indians are out in force, slaughtering deer by wholesale, and that the game warden and cowboys cow-boys are massing-, together and win make a descent on the redskins in ) force. According to this report the Indians have lookouts posted on the hilltops, and await the coming of the wardens and their allies, and are prepared to fight to the bust ditch. A friendly Indian has volunteered the iu formation that the scheme of the Indians is to act friendly and entice the wardens into their camp, and then kill them. They declare the soldiers are coming to assist them, and that they will drive the wardens out, or kill them, and then be free to hunt to their hearts' content. The truth or falsity of the above reports is not positively known, but it is certain that the ranchman ranch-man above referred to will return immediately im-mediately to assist in protecting the game interests of the state, as he hns declared his intention of doing so at once. Tlie agency oflicials and troops are believed to be in sympathy with the Indians, and are inclined to think that the game rightfully belongs to them. j This fact, coupled with the attitude maintained by the Indians themselves, leads to the conclusion that trouble is almost inevitable, sooner or later. |
