Life Writer/Assistant Life Editor If you*re having trouble trying to find the right gift for that hard-to-buy-for person (we all know the type), then you can't go wrong with music or movies. Everyone seems to love one or the other, if not both. Erik Frederickson has reviewed the best CDs, and Jason Pyles the best DVDs, released in 2006, and they have provided a list of recommendations for your holiday shopping convenience. The Killers: Sam's Town Sam's Town is a different sound then Hot Fuss, but seems to be catching on with fans just fine. Although they did something different, they made a very solid album. A must have for Jay-Z: Kingdom Come The master lyricist is back from his brief hiatus. Who really thought it would last? Kingdom Come is one of his best, that is for sure. Jay-Z has the ability to make you feel just about every emotion there is-all in the same album. Fergie: The Dutchess Fergie was smart to embark on a solo career. She has the ability to mix many different styles and sounds into her very own original sound. Every girl can appreciate a girl that doesn't hesitate for a second to speak her mind, and what guy doesn't want to stare at Fergie? Akon: Konvicted Akon has amazing musical talent. He writes, records, produces and mixes every- thing on his solo albums. Akon is dubbed as the new Nate Dogg. Although their voices are nothing alike, the need for a musician of this range and creativity is in high demand in the hiphop and R&B industries. Justin Timberlake: Future SexlLove Sounds Justin Timberlake is one of the most talented musicians in the entire music industry, by far. His influence reaches through hip-hop, R&B, pop and much more. He teamed up with producer Timberland to make one of the best albums of the year. chosen by us, the fans. With never-ending creativity and an abundance of songs to choose from that they play live on their tours, they could just keep on going forever. Snow Patrol: Eyes Open This album is probably the best album they have made thus far in their careers. With every track being a potential hit single, this album should be atop anyone's Christmas list. Keith Urban: Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing With his first single, "Once in a Lifetime," debuting as the best country single ever, The Dave Matthews Band: it was off to a great start. Apparently a lot of people, not excluding The Tempest director Christopher Clark. Starting Nov. 30 and running through Dec. 9, UVSC's unique and humorous interpretation of Shakespeare's last written performance is both enjoyable and bewildering. Imagine taking Baz Luhrmann's grandiose telling of Romeo and Juliet, bringing in Ben Stiller for a little comedie supervision, and you'd have Clark's interpretation of The Tempest. Neon lights and paint, masked actors/dancers and readers, set down off of the stage, help to form a production like nothing you've seen before. This does not mean it is without faults.
