Show TRUTHS. Allan Lovoy, the best cartoonist west of Chicago, is back again with the Salt Lake Herald. Tho newspaper fraternity frater-nity unanimously welcome him, and so does the public, which knowjj and enjoys his work thoroughly. The Herald, by gettlng'hlm back, has partly rectified the monumental mistake it made In letting him go away. tit 2t Some lively developments in regard to tho postofllce and the dastardly, currish cur-rish fight tho Tribune has been making mak-ing on Postmaster Thomas will come to light within tho next few weeks or maybe days. It will appear that the Tribune has for many months had in its pay employees of the postofllce, furnishing fur-nishing it with material to make its falso and contemptible charges against tho postmaster and that those same employees purposely and maliciously delayed tho delivery of letters and purposely sent letters to wrong ad; dresses and placed other letters In wrong boxes in the postofllce In order to bring censure and disgrace on tho postmaster. Postmaster Thomas has been "backcapped" by curs who were employed by tho curs that do currish wnrk for thn Tribune. No man who is rA a thoroughbred, or oven a half-breed, 'f' could be Induced to cover himself with tho f jlmo and tilth, which is the native ' element of tho Tribune. But what else could bo expected of such as Thomas Kearns? A history of the despicable i conspiracies in which Mr. Kearns has been tho prime mover for tho last twenty years would make Interesting reading. From tho murder in Nebraska, not to speak of tho previous occurrences, occur-rences, to tho Eula Wray scandal In ' Salt Lake with all Its ramifications and the plots and scandals since then m in which the ex-senator engaged would, ' if told, astound tho public, and revolt decent people. The Tribune complains tnat tho press and people have been knocking the Silver King mine. Tho Tribune squeals llko tho yellow dog it is, squeals before it is hurt. Tho press has handled the Silver King with kid gloves. Is It tho fault of the public that Silver ,Klng stock has fallen from $80 a share to ?20 or ?25 a share? Is it tho fault of the public that John Hays Hammond and other noted min-ing min-ing experts twice turned down tho Silver King mlno on an option to purchase pur-chase the property? Is it the fault of tho people that tiie mine directors passed one dividend altogether and cut the succeeding divided from tho usual ?100,000 to ?50,000? Is It the fault of the people that the oro from the Silver King has deteriorated in quality and fallen off in quantity? If tho Silvei King can buy other ground and keep up its record, well and good. Nobody will envy the proprietors or put any obstacles In molr way, but the public is entitled to the tacts as they exist. So Postmaster 1 nomas has been exonerated ex-onerated again. Five times ho has been investigated on charges trumped up by the Tribune, and each time has come out with flying colors and without with-out a stain. The department at Washington Wash-ington Is now pretty well informed regarding re-garding tne Tribune and its methods. So is tho Salt Lake public. Even Mr. Thomas' enemies won't approve of the "backcapplng" tho Tribune has been doing in tho postofflco matter. Jit The "American" party managers are very anxious that tho Inter-Mountain Republican should suspend publication. When Mr..Blunck sold out they hailed it as a sign of approaching disintegration, disintegra-tion, but they only fooled themselves. Tho change put tho paper on a more solid financial basis than It occupied before. The Inter-Mountain Is here, and here to stay. The Tribune, Herald and Telegram chose to speak- disparagingly, of Duncan Dun-can McAllister, the now manager of the Inter-Mountain Republican. It pleased the three jealous sheets ana didn't hurt Mac. Mr. McAllister is a pretty smart business man and will "make good" on tho Republican or wo are very much mistaken. The Tribune doesn't like Senator Sutherland. That's a good deal to Mr. Sutherland's credit. It is rather funny to think of men like Tom Kearns, furious J. Cannon and tno gallant gal-lant Colonel Nelson attempting to belittle be-little tho mental abilities and stability of character of Senator Sutherland, a man who has more brains than tho whole Tribune gang combined.. It's also amusing to read In the Tribune about how tho dignity, reputation and power of the state suffered by tho election of Mr. Sutherland to tho senate. sen-ate. What on earth happened to tho dignity and reputation of tho state by the election of lorn Kearns and Furious Furi-ous J. cannon as United States senators sen-ators a pair of characterless black-guards? black-guards? How Tom did uphold tho dignity of the state! J Among those who attended tho meeting of the state committee of tho "American" party on Thursday evening even-ing were the party's boss, Thomas Kearns, David Keith, J. E. Darmer, Joseph Lippman, Ben Heywood, P. J. Daly and A. J. Weber. Jit Jt The report of the commission charged with tho investigation of tho Arglcultural College shows t,he absolute abso-lute correctness of the position taken by Truth in regard to the college about a year ago, a position which it maintained against tho cntlro dally press of Salt Lake. J& Jt Last week's edition of Truth was probably tho most numerous editioi. of any paper ever published In Salt Lake. It was well received and highly high-ly complimented. Jt fcC At a meeting of tho Democratic leaders a few days ago the question of fusion was broached, but recelvl absolutely no favor. The Democrats expect to be strong enough to carry tho election alone. |
