Show . POLITICAL MELANGE , The political campaign is opening very early this year, oven for a mate election. A congressman, a judge of the Supremo court, members of the legislature and county ofTlcers in every county in tho state are to bo -elected. Candidates aro already buzzing around. Among tho first to come out in the :- open Is Parley P. Chrlstensen, who . - announces his candidacy for the nom- k- ination for Congress on the Republi can ticket. Parley has lots of friends who havo been working in his interest for months, and who express confidence confi-dence that ho will "get there" ah right. There are others, however, who declare that Mr. Christensen really does not expect to land the nomination this time; that he Is young ! both in years and politics, but that be- I mg a canuuiato witn a goou support I for tho high office of congressman M would pavo the way for future suc- (KJ cess. Certain it is that he will have a hard time to beat present Congress man Howell in tho convention. Tho Democrats aro looking to Judgo Powers Pow-ers to lead their tickot for tho congressional congres-sional place. He would, they argue, draw well from tho Republicans, especially espe-cially thoso Republicans who favor a Gentilo for tho place. There aro also j growing Indications that tho Tribune ! will como out squarely for tho Domo- i crats this fall and if such should be I tho case it would doubtless carry num- hers of tho "American" party with it. Tho Tribuno and the" "Americans" havo no hopo of carrying tho state and It is certain that tho Tribuno will do us utmost to defeat tho Republi cans. Tho "American" cause In tho state being hopeless it follows that tho support of tho paper would go to tho Democratic state candidates. As to tho "American" congressional candidate nobody as yet has been mentioned. Any old thing will do for that. For Supremo judgo the choico so .far as indicated at present is botweon Judgo Frick and Judgo Morso. The Democrats aro talking of F. S. Richards Rich-ards and Judge King for the Supremo bench, while P. J. Daly, Sandy Fowler and J. 13. Dariu " aro mentioned by tho Americans. County candidates aro yet in aboy-f. aboy-f. ( ance. For recorder Percy Perkins! for county clerk J. U. Eldredge, Jr., ani toif county attorney, Willard Hanson appear to havo the ilrst call on tho Republicans. For treasurer and auditor thero Is nobody seriously talked of. It is thought tho present incumbents, in-cumbents, W. O. Carbis and Mont Fisher, will not bo candidates again, both having had two terms. As to sheriff it is possible C. Frank Emory may mako tho race, but thero Is nothing noth-ing definite on that point. Tho Democrats and Americans have done but little figuring on their county candidates yet. Tho disfavor Into which tho "American" city administration ad-ministration has fallen Is lessening their cnances of success dally, and It is not Improbable that there might bo a fusion on county officers between tho Republicans and Democrats. |
