Show Recognition of Excellence Awards Presented by PG Council PTA by Shauna DeBuck Pleasant Grove Council PTA held its annual Recognition Recogni-tion of Excellence Awards luncheon lun-cheon on Thursday, April 7, at the . .K.u. Council President Shauna DeBuck welcomed local PTA presidents, principals, honorees ' and guests from the ten Pleasant Grove and Lindon schools which make up the council. Lunch was enjoyed by 120 people who gathered. gath-ered. PG Council PTA Scholarship Scholar-ship winners Spencer Taylor and Shylee Sweeten read their winning win-ning essays to the group then the school's awards were presented. Each school chose to honor their volunteers, teachers,' administra-. tors andor staff members for their excellence this past school year. Central Elementary honored teachers Cheryl Keller and Dian-tha Dian-tha Smith, teacher's aide Nancy Butterfield, and volunteer Amy Lundell for their terrific work. Grovecrest Elementary selected se-lected teacher Zachary Nelson, and volunteers Allison Melen-dez, Melen-dez, Maggie Anderson, and Jennifer Jen-nifer Baptista for their relentless work for students. Lindon Elementary honored Principal Jason Theler, Assistant Principal Joe Backman, teachers Cindy Primrose, Stacy Howell. Jeri Rogers, Heather Rolph, secretary sec-retary Stacie Bunton, and volunteers volun-teers Amy Clay and Ronna Has-sell. Has-sell. Manila Elementary chose teachers Kerry Stott, Amanda Frischneckt, Brittany Pulley, and volunteer Melissa Karren to receive re-ceive recognition. Mt. Mahogany decided on teachers Michele Nielsen, Annette Van Wagenen, Rudy Dominguez, Marianne McAllister, McAllis-ter, Principal Scot Westover, and volunteers Jamie Anderson and Melinda Mitchell for recognition of their excellence throughout the year. Rocky Mountain Elementary Elemen-tary named teachers Cindy Mac-Murdo. Mac-Murdo. Joni Donithorne, Talli Gubler. David Shei'fer, Chertine Willis, and Emily Holden as outstanding out-standing educators. Valley View Elementary selected teachers Cindy Garrett, Sherrie Ellsworth, staff member, Shonagh Davis, and volunteers Nicole S perry. Inger Phelon, Jar-ed Jar-ed Sidwell, and Brenda Smith to distinguish. Pleasant Grove Junior High School chose to honor staff member Laurie Danklef, and teachers Jessica Clyde and Mark Hardman. Oak Canyon Junior High selected teachers Sue Jones, Charae Ecalano, ConnieUga-ki, ConnieUga-ki, secretaries Brenda Swen-son, Swen-son, Lisa Larsen, Linda Miller, volunteer Cheri Hardman, and Prinicpal Scott Sumner for their outstanding work with the faculty, students, and families fami-lies of their school. Pleasant Grove High School honored teachers Brock Moore and Jim Wilcock, administrator ad-ministrator Matt Norman, and volunteer Chris Donaldson. DeBuck also announced that three PG Council members mem-bers were selected as Utah State PTA winners. One of six statewide winners, Terri Whittingham, of Lindon, was selected as a Utah State PTA Golden Apple Volunteer of the Year. Dr. Nancy Sorenson, principal of Manila Elementary, Elementa-ry, was selected by Utah State PTA as Administrator of the Year. Lisa Closson, a parent at Manila Elementary school, was named "Utah PTA Spirit of PTA" award winner recognizing recog-nizing her as an outstanding volunteer who has given remarkable re-markable and consistent service ser-vice to the PTA. Closson will be presented this honor at the Alpine School Board meeting to be held on May 17 and will be recognized at the State PTA Leadership Convention held in May at BYU.
