At home on April 11, the Vikings crushed American Fork 19-0. However, in a road game at West Jordan on April 13, the West Jordan Jaguars shut out Pleasant Grove 10-0. In the American Fork game, . Viking pitcher Angie Mikalauski threw a nohitter. In the top of the first, she walked Lexi Morris and Nia Harper, but both of those American Fork girls got stuck on base. In the bottom of the first, Mikalauski hit a two-run homer that fired up' a 10-run rally. In the next inning, Robyn Jeserick hit a three-run double during a nine-run stampede that brought the Vikings an early victory. The game got called after the top of the third. Viking Coach Jim Clark said, "American Fork's a really young team. So they struggled against us. Our girls put in some good swings. Angie's home run got us really going. Chicks dig long balls. We were supposed to play at AF today, but their coach told me at 10 this morning that their diamond was too muddy to play on. So we moved the game here." Pleasant Grove did get some hits in its six inning game at West Jordan on April 13. Posting five strikeouts, Jaguar pitcher Breanna Ordinway did not let the Vikings make another hit until the fourth. In the bottom of the first, Mikalauski struck out Ordinway and made Becky Ballard fly out into left. Brea Buckley homered hom-ered off Mikalauski, but the Viking Vi-king pitcher kept the Jaguar lead stuck at 1-0 until the bottom of the third. On one out that inning, Jaguar Jag-uar Markke Ashton hit a one-run double that set off a five-run ral-ly. ral-ly. In the fourth's top half, Lexi Schoonover singled off Ordinway, but got put out at second. sec-ond. On two outs, Jentri White singled into left, but the Jaguars kept her stuck on base through right fielder Kayla Baird's catching a Regan Weber fly ball. During the bottom of the fourth, the Jaguars improved their lead at 8-0 through one-singles one-singles hit by Annie Oliver and Chelsea Bills. In the sixth, Viking Jo-sey Jo-sey Walker singled on one out, giving Pleasant Grove a final chance for scoring. However, after she got put out at second, West Jordan proceeded to end the game that inning. After Lyndsey Drake and Ashton had singled off Mikalauski, a Viking error let West Jordan pick up a run. Kenzie Culligan delivered the knockout blow by singling in Drake for the game ending run. |
