Show PG Viking 16-Under Division Team Shoots Down Skyline Eagles 11-1 In UBAL Playoffs in a hot box play near second, Van Ammin struck out Simpson. Kaesmeyer doubled off the pitcher, but got strand at third as he saw Walker ground out to shortstop Clayton. Slapping Skyline with a double play in the top of the sixth, the Vikings finally finished the Eagles off in the bottom of the inning. Aided by an infield single slugged by Cox, Stevenson singled in a run that sparked a three-run rally. During Lewis doubled in Stevenson, and Newanswander knocked in Jones for the winning run. by Dean Von Memmott In the first round of the Utah Baseball Academy League playoffs for the 16-under division on July 21, the Pleasant Grove Vikings defeated the Skyline Eagles 11-1 in a six inning game played at Viking Field. Viking Coach Heath Stevenson said, "We had great pitching from the three guys we had put on the mound tonight: Bryce Jones, Colson Rich, and Chandler Bice. We had some great hits, especially in the first inning." In the top of the first, Jones grounded out Jake Van Ammin. After third baseman Aiden Newanswander had grounded out Anj Birrgeos, Jones struck out Ryan Clark to hold the Eagles scoreless. The bottom of the first opened with Bradyn Cox singling into right. Cox tried scoring on a Ty Stevenson double slugged into right, but catcher Jake Debecki tagged him at the plate. Jones doubled in Stevenson, and as soon as McKay Lewis had joined the Viking pitcher on base, Newanswander doubled them in to improve the lead at 3-0. In the top of the second, second baseman Lewis grounded out Griffin Clayton and Abe Yaggi. Suddenly, Sam Ericson singled off Jones, and the Eagles looked as though they would be getting onto the scoreboard, especially when Danny Stevens got on base via a walk. However, Lewis tagged Stevens in a fielder's choice play. In the bottom of the second, Luke Kaesmeyer doubled in Peyton Simpson, but got tagged at third while trying to turn his hit into a double. Skyline didn't let the Vikings make another run until the bottom of the third. In the top of it, Jones fanned two batters and caused Dimitri Sachyllar to fly out to right fielder Jameo Carr. Loading the bases in the bottom of the third, Ty Stevenson slugged a hit that should have been a triple, but he got called out, for he did not touch first base while on his way to third. Nevertheless, the Vikings soon loaded the bases, however, and they scored two runs on a walk and error. In the fourth's top half, Birrgeos singled into left, and Clark doubled him in. That was the only RBI the Vikings let the Eagles have. After the fourth, Pleasant Grove didn't let Skyline make any hits. In the bottom of the fourth, Easton Walker singled to third, and he came home on a Cox triple. A Ty Stevenson sacrifice-fly sacrifice-fly scored Cox.
