Show COAL PRODUCTION SOME. SMALLER THAT OF COKE, HOWEVER, INCREASES Conl production in Utnh during the fiscal year ended November 30, 1915, Bhowed a decrease of GG.815 tons from that of the year previous, and slight increases in the production of coke are shown for the same period in the report of J. E. Pettit, state coal mine Inspector, which was submitted to Governor Spry Friday ai last week. In the report Inspector Pettit expresses the belief that the present producers will increase their output, and declares that the newly organized Carbon Fuel company and the Ketchum Coal company com-pany will ndd two more producers to the list in 1916. Slight Decrease Shown In Production. The state's total production for the year was 3,083,670 short tonfl, a decrease of 6G,815 tons under 1914. The year's production of coke was 357,572 tons, nn increase of 8766 tons over 1914. The production of hydrocarbons, sometimes called gilsonitc, amounted to 29,044 tons, nn increase of 11,564 tons over 1914. Of the total production of conl, 314,319 tons were shipped from the mines to Snlt Lake City. The total transmitted to railroads was 462,508 tons; the amount shipped to other Utah points, 850,957 tons; shipped to other states, 662,218 tons; used nt the mines nnd in locnl sales, 128,565 tons. In Btorngc arc 19,108 tons nnd 4128 tons in coal dust constituted the waste. Conl Imported Into the State. Woming coals wjirc imported o the state during the year to tho amount of 200.J195 tons, which, compared with the total amount of Utnh coal consumed in the state, shows the prevalence of the "home product" over the other. Referring to general conditions con-ditions of the conl mining industry nnd the men engaged in it, the inspector's report summarizes as follows: "No labor troubles occurred during the year, wages nnd selling prices of conl remaining npproximntely the same as the preceding year. An average of 4044 men were employed in and around the mines nnd coke plnnts, a decrease of three hundred and eight men for 1915. "There were eleven fntal accidents during the year or 2.27 per 1000 men employed, n decrease of nine under 1914. Carbon county coun-ty contributed nine and Emery county two accidents. Altogether, one hundred and ninety-four accidents occurred fatal, eleven; serious, twenty-eight; non-serious, one hundred and fifty-five; total, one hundred and ninety-four. |
