Show 21st South Widening Definite In the Spring Charles R. Petty, chairman of 21st South street widening committee, com-mittee, of the Sugar House chamber cham-ber of commerce, said arrangements arrange-ments with property owners to extend ex-tend the options on the property until weather conditions in the spring give the go ahead signal on the project were under way. All business houses but one have readily deeded over their strip of 12 foot frontage for the improvement improve-ment project on the south side of 21st South street between 11th East and 13th East streets. Until such time as weather conditions con-ditions permit the actual start on the job, all details are being taken care of with the engineering data, blue prints, etc., being drawn up. This will enable the widening project pro-ject to be ready to go as soon as spring weather breaks. Course of action on the undeed-ed undeed-ed property on the street will depend de-pend on the decision taken by the home office of the company in Boise, Idaho, Mr. Petty stated. Actual work of widening 21st South between 11th and 13th East streets will begin in the spring of 1953, according to E. G. Johnson, chief engineer of the state road commission. Said Mr. Johnson, "The work is definitely going through next spring. We have already commit-Contimied commit-Contimied on Page f? 21ST SOUTH WIDENING Continued from Page 1 ted ourselves to handle the project at that time." The work needed to widen 21st South from Main to State street will be done next summer, also, said Mr. Johnson. The 12-foot strips needed to widen both strips of the state road will be taken from the south side of the street. Widening the street from Keith O'Brien Sugar House to Robert's service station should not take more than 30 or 40 days. According Accord-ing to Mr. Johnson, biggest problem prob-lem will be scarifying the road to lower and move to the new center of the street, the crown of the road. An entire new surface will be laid along the two-block strip. The new crown will be lower, as there is too much pitch to the highway at present, Mr. Johnson informed in-formed the News Bulletin. When resurfacing begins, the street will be entirely closed to traffic for about ten days. Traffic normally traversing 21st South will be detoured, much of it along Wilmington avenue. The Sugar House chamber of commerce was instrumental in getting this street opened through to 13th East some time ago. The Sugar House chamber is also working closely with the state road commission in ironing out technicalities in right-of-way procedure. pro-cedure.
