Show SPRINGVILLE IS DEFEATED BY BULLDOGS Fighting gamely, but to no avail, Springville high school was decisively de-cisively defeated by Provo high last Friday by a score of 51 to 0. Although Al-though the Artists were badly beaten, it was not a disgraceful defeat by any means, since Springville Spring-ville fought to the last in the face of overwhelming odds. Provo played its best ball of the season to annex the regional championship cham-pionship from the Artists, but would not have been able to run up such a decisive margin but frx the unfortunate, injury of Red Thome, quarterback, on the first play of the game. He was forced out of the lineup a few moments later, .and the Artists' offense was materially damaged by his absence. The los3 of the field general seemed to throw Springville off its stride generally, and the Artists failed to play their usual smooth football, though they battled to the last. Provo scored one touchdown ;n the first quarter, two in the sec-1 sec-1 ond, and ran away from the Artists, despite desperate attempts at re-sistence. re-sistence. Blocked, kicks accounted for several of the Provo scores, the Springville line failing to hold Provo's linemen at critical points. Captain Bill Paxman played a brilliant game for Springville, and his returns of Provo punts were the outstanding features of Spring-ville's Spring-ville's effort. Childs was unable to ain through the Provo line, but played brilliantly on defense, as did Madsen, a substitute back. Bird was outstanding on the line, and Haymond also did good work. For Provo, Biddulph, Robison. Fotheringham and Robertson were the star performers. |
