DYU grid star's jersey retired The football jersey of Eldon Fortie, ' BYU's tailback, will be permanently retired, according to Univer-sity officials who announced the precedent-breakin- g action Saturday. Thus the BYU star, who has already been named to the first team of one selection, becomes the first player in the school's history to be so honored. Fortie's "number 40" will be formally retired at a stu-dent body gathering Friday night in the George Albert Smith fieldhouse. The number will not be used by any fu-ture player or listed on any future varsity football roster. Fortie's jersey will be pla-ced in a special case in the foyer of the George Albert Smith fieldhouse along with certificates of awards he has earned this year. Fortie, who received nation-al recognition for his play this season, set 21 offensive records at BYU this fall. Many of these marks will stand in the record books of the new Western Conference. For eight weeks during the season he led the nation in total offense and rushing. He scored a total of 86 points, ran for 14 touchdowns and passed for seven more. Shoot scheduled in ProYO Sunday Sponsored by the Provo Gun Club, a shoot will be held Sun-day Dec. 2, at the Provo Air-port to which anyone is in-vited to participate. The shoot will begin at 11 a.m. Included will be a 50 target race, sliding handicap. Buddy buddy and miss and out be-gins at 1 p.m. Merchandise prizes will be given. v .. .
