Show Brother of Local People Died Tues. in Washington Arthur V. Sanford, Jr., 58, a former resident of this city and brother of Frank Sanford, and Howard Sanford and Mrs. Alice Ence,, died Tuesday at his home in Manchester, Washington, according ac-cording to word received here. He was born in Hanksville, Mar. 20, 1893, a son of A. V. and Caroline Caro-line Sarah Mendenhall Sanford. The family moved to Springville and he attended schools here. His mother died when he" was very young. Mr. Sanford enlisted in the U. S. Navy stationed in the Philippine Islands for about two years. He was also a veteran of World War I, being one of the first three in Juab county to enlist. He was a member of the famed 91st Division and fought in the Battle of the Argonne. He returned to Springville in 1919. On October 12, 1921, he married Emma Leon Hague at Nephi and they were later divorced. div-orced. He was a member of the LDS church and a candy maker by trade. He had lived in Washington Wash-ington and Oregon approximately 20 years. He is survived by his widow; also a son and a daughter by his first marriage, Mrs. Robert( June) Marshall Mar-shall and David Arthur Sanford, both of Salt Lake City; also two grandchildren, his step-mother of Springville and the following brothers bro-thers and sisters: Frank J. Sanford, San-ford, Howard Sanford, Mrs. Alice Ence, Springville; Jessie Wick-man, Wick-man, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Helen Day, Bautista, Calif.; Mrs. Carrie Jolly, Port Clinton, Ohio; Eugene Sanford of Spanish Fork. |
