McGOYElty Former physical director, Cornell Medical College Fat or Fashion every woman can decide I HAVE had bo many inquiries in-quiries lately frmn my women readers for information in-formation as to the best -ways to reduce that I am writing another article on weight reduction. It has always been true that "nobody loves a fat man," but the woman who finds herself In t hp Til nmn pfttfl- TUX REDUCTION ROAD IS LOKG BUT SURE. But eho must remember that every one has different powers o f assimilation, that while nearly near-ly all the food taken by a fat woman ia used for flesh building, build-ing, the thin per-Bon per-Bon is probably only getting half the amount of no url b hiu en from what she eats and that there are certain EARN as you 5 TURN . You often hear a -woman Bay that her mother or her grandmother was very fift, ao, of course, she, herself, her-self, is. This is only evidence of bad Judgment and a lack of self-respect. The woman who wants to reduce re-duce must keep In mind these things as regards fat: Protein rebuilds wornout tissue but does not produce fat. Examples of protein are lean meat and eggs. Carbohydrates and fats must be either used up in muscular exercise or laid down as fat. Carbohydrates are sugars, starches, etc. as I explained in a previous article. Reduction can only be accomplished by proper exercise under the advice of an expert physical trainer combined with a strict limitation limita-tion in your diet of carbohydrates carbo-hydrates and fats. If large quantities of protein . are eaten while an effort is being made to reduce, there should be no feeling of weakness if your diet is properly arranged, nor should there be 'any sensation sensa-tion of hunger. I have just compiled a chart of twelve exercises which are too lengthy to put in a short article, but I will be glad to furnish them free to any of my readers who will send me a self-addressed stamped envelope. For an obese person with good kidney function the following fol-lowing menus havo proven to be excellent: gory now-a-days is- in even a worse predicament. Fashion's ideal has veered from a rounded 36 to a very slender 34. All social activities are planned for the woman with a slim active figure, and even our physicians join the chorus in praise of slenderness. Some of ns may wish to be indifferent to the commands of the milliners and the designers who make their best models with the slender woman In mind, and be oontent to ignore the new rules of social Ufa and sit around on the side lines looking look-ing like dowagers and adding on fat when every other woman of the same age is dancing, riding and playing golf with almost the same energy as her debutante daughter. But no one dares to refuse attention when physicians physi-cians say that becoming too fat involves serious risk to the health, especially when the extra ex-tra pounds are acquired after one is twenty-five. For the woman who has . gained more fat than fashion, social life and the medical profession pro-fession decree that it is advisable advis-able to lose it again. Diet is oftec a hard problem for the woman who wants to reduce. She may see a woman very -much thinner than herself eat exactly the same meals and yet gain no superfluous weight. -To diet under these circum-j circum-j stances seems like making an unnecessary martyr of herself. - Service Meat & Grocery Co.
