Memories of Christmas There and Back Again Shirlene R. Ottesen The Veterans Memorial was made to honor all veterans buried in the Spanish Fork Cemetery. It's running out of room for names and we need to build two more walls to be able to honor our local heroes. T he community came together to build the original monument 10 years ago. Now the Spanish Fork Veterans Council is asking for your renewed support. The total cost for this project is estimated at $20,000. Our veterans did not let our country down in its time of need — let's not let them down now! Donations can be turned in to Thad Jensen, Glen Bradford or Steve Wilson of the Veterans Council. Every dollar counts! Thank you for your support! CONTRIBUTIONS T O DATE $20,000 Merry Christmas, everyone! We've known it was coming for the past twelve months and now it's almost here! It is such a special time of the year because of all that goes with it. I love a white Christmas. I was thoroughly convinced as a young child that Santa could not come unless there was snow so he could travel in his sleigh, so hoping for snow was just part of the event, along with a few requests on a short list. Life was so simple then. We didn't have tv or an unending streamof advertisements telling us what we needed or what we deserved. Being a girl, I always got a doll and I still have a few of them. One is still dressed in the original dress and a couple have dresses that my mother made. Nothing fancy, just material ends left from making an apron or a quilt and both are trimmed with ric-rac and very special to me. None of the early dolls had hair. It was just sculpted into the head. It was a real plus if they had movable eyes. Then a little mommygirl could tell when her "baby" it reads: Cornet 49 cents. I remember making paper had gone to sleep.
