Salem's "hard play" started with three first-half touchdowns and a goalline stand that forced the Utes to kick a field goal, putting the Skyhawks up 20-3 going into the second half. Coming out of half time, Uintah received the ball and were forced to punt by the Salem defense. However, the punter dropped the ball and was unable to get off a good kick, giving the Skyhawks the ball at the 30 yard-line. Salem was unable to take advantage of the short field as they were stopped on a fourth-down conversion on the 15 yard-line, giving Uintah a long field to work with. If the Spanish Fork/ Payson rivalry has diminished with the inclusion of Salem Hills High School in Region 8, you wouldn't have known it by watching the football game on Friday, Oct. 2 between the two schools. Spanish Fork had nine penalties for 125 yards, and Payson 15 for 145, some of which came from words and even a little shoving from both sides, as the Dons defeated the Lions, 47-31. While the Dons struggled to defend the pass (Lions quarterback Colton Cannon threw for 313 yards), they kept the game close with solid offense, as Hayden Nielsen threw for 206 yards and rushed for 77, and Travis Still racked up 125 receiving yards. After Payson took a 7-0 lead to begin the first quarter. Spanish Fork tied the game up 7-7 on a 15-yard fourth-down touchdown toss from Hayden Nielsen to Travis Still. Payson answered 20 seconds later with a 55-yard touchdown pass for a 13-7 lead. Then it was Spanish Fork's turn, as the Dons took their first lead of the game, 14—13, on a 51-yard touchdown run by Hayden Nielsen. The Dons extended that lead to eight, 21-13, with 4:24 left in the half, as Nielsen once again found Still for a touchdown. Payson closed the gap to two, 21-19, with 1:41 left in the half, recovering a Spanish Fork fumble on the Dons' six yard-line, and scoring just two plays later. It only took Spanish Fork 18 seconds to respond, which they did on another Nielsen-to-Still play, this time for 65 yards, making it 28-19, Dons. A long kickoff return, however, allowed the Lions one more chance to score, and with 21.5 seconds left in the half, Colton Cannon connected with Brady Loveless for six. The Dons went into the locker room holding onto a precarious 28-25 lead. Both teams threatened, but failed, to score in the third quarter. You The American Leadership Academy Eagle Football Team traveled to Price to take on the Carbon Dinos. The Eagles were able to pull off a sloppy 27-16 victory over the winiess Carbon team. With the win, the Eagles move to 3-4 on the season and secure their first region win in school history. The Eagles came out on fire and scored on a short run by Hunter Morley. On their next possession, Morley found Marcus Monsen on a long pass up the sideline for Monsen's first receiving touchdown of the year. That made the score 14—0 with six minutes left in the first quarter. It appeared the game might turn into a blow out, but the Eagles pulled their foot off the gas and allowed the Dinos back into the game. Carbon was able to get a safety by making a tackle in the end zone after they punted and pinned the Eagles right on the goal line. This brought the score to 14-2 at the half. In the second half, the Eagles allowed a long touchdown to bring the Dinos within a touchdown. The Eagles countered with a long touchdown of their own as Morley ran up the sideline and scored. A failed extra point bought the score to 20-8. Early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles scored again on a short pass to Monsen, who found an opening for a long touchdown. Carbon wasn't finished, though. The Eagles fumbled on their own five yard-line, where the Dinos recovered and were able to score on See ALA • A l l may find yourself enjoying the great indoors more lhan the great outdoors.
